Alessio Deledda (born 10 December 1994 in Italy) is an Italian racing driver who debuted in the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship for HWA Racelab.[1] A controversial figure due to his record both one and off a race track, Deledda was signed by HWA ahead of the 2021 season to partner compatriot Matteo Nannini, despite having failed to score a point in two seasons of the FIA Formula 3 Championship.[1]

Prior to being signed by HWA for the 2021 season, Deledda was criticised by numerous figures including ex-F1 driver Giedo van der Garde, after sharing numerous videos of dangerous driving on public roads on social media.[2] Deledda later apologised for posting the videos.[3]

Background[]

Supported by significant family backing, Deledda's career began with the Italian racer competing in bike racing, rising from junior categories until peaking in the Italian Superstock 600 series in 2017.[4] After failing to progress beyond the Superstock class, Deledda moved into car racing in 2018 joining the Italian F4 Championship for the full season.[4] However, it would not be a particularly strong season for Deledda, with the Italian youth ending the season down in 39th place.[4]

F3 Fortune: 2019 - 2020[]

Regardless, Deledda secured a deal with Campos Racing to compete in the winter version of the Euroformula Open Series at the end of the 2019 season, finishing in ninth.[4] That translated into a full campaign with Campos in the FIA Formula 3 Championship for the 2019 season, with Deledda ending that season down in 29th in the championship, having failed to score.[4] After a winter spent competing in the F3 Asian Championship, finishing fifteenth, Deledda would again race for Campos in FIA Formula 3, and would similarly endure a pointless campaign en-route to 34th in the final standings.[4]

Formula 2 History[]

In-spite of his relatively poor record in FIA Formula 3, Deledda was signed by HWA Racelab's FIA Formula 2 Championship squad for the 2021 season, partnering Matteo Nannini.[1]
