Clément Novalak (born 23 December 2000 in Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France) is a Franco-Swiss racing driver, who competes in the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship with MP Motorsport.[1] The 2019 BRDC British Formula 3 Champion, Novalak would test for both Trident and UNI-Virtuosi at the 2020 Post-Season Test in hope of securing a seat for the 2021 F2 Championship, before signing up to complete a sophomore season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.[2]
Yet, towards the end of the 2021 season Novalak would get the chance to compete in F2, when MP Motorsport offered him a seat in the #12 car in place of Lirim Zendeli.[3] The French pilot went on to claim a trio of fourteenth place finishes in his six race cameo, ending the season in 28th in the Championship.[4]
Novalak would secure a full season seat with MP Motorsport for the 2022 campaign, partnering Felipe Drugovich for his rookie season.[1]
Notably, Novalak would race under a British licence until the 2021 season, when the Franco-Swiss racer opted to compete under a French licence instead.[5]
Background[]
Novalak began his career in karting at the age of ten, winning multiple championships until graduating to single-seaters in 2018, after undergoing an assessment to join the Ferrari Driver Academy.[6][7] That season would see Novalak open his year with a run to fifth in the Toyota Racing Series, before completing a full season in the Formula Renault Eurocup.[6] The Franco-Swiss racer, competing under a British race licence, would ultimately fail to score in the Eurocup, although did find more success in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship.[6]
F3 Familiarity: 2019 - 2021[]
For 2019 Novalak made the British F3 Championship his sole focus for the season, which duly saw the British registered runner claim the title with two wins.[6] For 2020 Novalak earned a promotion to the FIA Formula 3 Championship with his British F3 employers Carlin, and would go on to claim two podium finishes en-route to twelfth in the championship.[6] The Franco-Swiss racer would go on to secure a sophomore campaign in FIA F3 for 2021, albeit after switching allegiances for the season.[6]
Formula 2 History[]
Novalak was selected by Trident to test one of their cars at the 2020 Bahrain Post-Season Test, completing the first two days before Bent Viscaal took over the car.[2] The Franco-Swiss racer would also get to complete the final day of the Test with UNI-Virtuosi, and would ultimately set the eleventh fastest time of the test.[8]
Clement Cameo: 2021[]
Despite missing out on a seat in F2 for 2021, Novalak would get to complete a full campaign in FIA Formula 3, ending the season in third.[3] Yet, ahead of the double-headed finale to end the 2021 season, Novalak was approached by MP Motorsport to compete in Jeddah, replacing Lirim Zendeli after the German racer hit budget issues.[3]
MP Major: 2022[]
After his six race cameo Novalak was signed for a full F2 season in 2022 with MP Motorsport, partnering Felipe Drugovich.[1]
