Enzo Fittipaldi da Cruz (born 18 July 2001 in Miami, Florida, USA) is a Brazilian-American racing driver, who competes for Charouz Racing System in the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship.[1] The grandson of Formula One legend Emerson Fittipaldi and brother of Pietro Fittipaldi, Fittipaldi secured his F2 debut midway through the 2021 season.[2]
Fittipaldi signed with Charouz ahead of the 2021 Monza Sprint Race 1 during the 2021 season, replacing David Beckmann who briefly left the series.[2] The Brazilian racer would attend three rounds before missing the finale due to injuries sustained in a heavy accident in Jeddah.[3]
Fittipaldi was previously a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, although the Italian manufacturer would end their backing of the Brazilian racer at the start of the 2021 season.[4][5]
Background[]
Following the path of elder brother Pietro, Fittipaldi began his career in karting, competing in various Florida based series in the United States, before moving to Europe in 2016 to begin his car racing career.[6] Taking a seat in the Ginetta Junior Championship, Fittipaldi would finish down in eighteenth, although he would secure the backing of the Ferrari Driver Academy at the end of the season.[4][6] The winter saw Fittipaldi make his single-seater debut in the North American F4 Championship, before the Brazilian ran to ninth in the Italian F4 Championship.[6]
Family Footsteps: 2018 - 2021[]
Fittipaldi remained in Italian F4 for 2018, and duly won the series at his second attempt with seven victories, paired with a run to third in the ADAC F4 Championship.[6] For 2019 Fittipaldi secured a drive in the Formula Regional European Championship, finishing as runner-up to Frederik Vesti, while also making his debut at the Macau Grand Prix.[6] Those exploits earned Fittipaldi a move into the FIA Formula 3 Championship for 2020, with the Brazilian youth claiming fifteenth in his rookie campaign.[6]
The start of the 2021 season saw Fittipaldi part with the Ferrari Driver Academy, after the Brazilian racer revealed that he would focus on the Indy Pro 2000 Championship for the season.[5][6] However, after attending the opening round, Fittipaldi would opt to return to the European scene with a full season seat in FIA Formula 3 once again, moving to the Charouz Racing System squad.[6] However, fate would decide that Fittipaldi would only complete half of the F3 season, with the Brazilian racer earning a mid-season promotion that left him with 25 points and seventeenth in the F3 title hunt.[6]
Formula 2 History[]
Fittipaldi was promoted from Charouz Racing Systems F3 team during the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship, replacing David Beckmann after the German racer was forced to withdraw due to a lack of funding.[2] The Brazilian racer's debut came at the 2021 Monza Sprint Race 1, where he retired on the third lap with a gearbox failure.[7]
Physical Peaks: 2021[]
Charouz Faith: 2022[]
After spending the winter recovering from his injuries from his accident in Jeddah, Fittipaldi was re-signed by Charouz for the full 2022 F2 season, with the Czech squad partnering him with Cem Bölükbaşı for the campaign.[1]
