Gianluca Petecof (born 14 November 2002 in São Paulo, São Paulo State, Brazil) is a Brazilian racing driver, who made his debut in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Campos Racing during the 2021 season.[1] The 2020 Formula Regional European Champion and a former Ferrari Driver Academy member, Petecof would partner Ralph Boschung in his rookie F2 season, despite struggling to fund the second half of his FR Europe campaign in 2020.[2]

Background[]

Petecof began his career karting in his native Brazil, winning numerous titles before a move to Europe in his mid-teens.[2] In 2018 Petecof moved into single-seaters with a dual campaign in the Italian and ADAC Formula 4 championships, having secured backing from the Ferrari Driver Academy.[2][3] A victory and a handful of podiums in Italian F4 would represent Petecof's better haul for the season, although the Brazilian youth would still finish inside the top ten in ADAC F4.[2]

Budget Battles: 2019 - 2020[]

2019 saw Petecof remain in the two European based F4 series, with the Brazilian racer going on to finish second to Dennis Hauger in the Italian series.[2] For 2020 Petecof moved up to regional F3, joining the Formula Regional European Championship, despite having funding issues.[2] Yet, in-spite of almost losing his seat mid-season, Petecof would defeat fellow FDA member Arthur Leclerc to the title, although Ferrari would still drop the Brazilian racer from their young driver programme at the end of the campaign.[4][5]

Formula 2 History[]

Petecof was a surprise signing ahead of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship, with Campos Racing placing the Brazilian youth alongside Ralph Boschung for the campaign.[1]
