Lirim Zendeli (born 18 October 1999 in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) is a German-Albanian racing driver, who will compete in the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship for MP Motorsport.[1] A race winner in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, Zendeli graduated to F2 after finishing in eighth in F3 with Trident.[1]

Background[]

Beginning his career karting in his native Germany, Zendeli stepped up to car racing in 2016, entering the ADAC Formula 4 series.[2] Thirteenth in the Championship would result for Zendeli, earning him a second season in 2017 as he stayed with his original team.[2] Three victories and three poles saw Zendeli improve to fourth in the series behind future F2 rivals Jüri Vips, Marcus Armstrong and Felipe Drugovich.[2]

Wavering Wonders: 2018-2020[]

For 2018 Zendeli moved to the Charouz Racing System run US Racing-CHRS team, who duly aided the German racer into becoming the 2018 ADAC F4 Champion, with the German racer claiming ten wins in 21 races.[2] Charouz duly promoted him into their FIA Formula 3 Championship squad for the inaugural 2019 season, although Zendeli's form deserted him seeing him finish down in eighteenth in the Championship.[2] For 2020 Zendeli moved to Trident, resulting in the German racer claiming his first F3 win en-route to eighth in the Championship.[2] That followed a run to eighth in the Toyota Racing Series at the beginning of the season.[2]

Formula Two History[]

Zendeli got his first taste of an FIA Formula 2 Championship car at the 2020 Bahrain Post-Season Test, when he drove across the three-day test for MP Motorsport.[3] The German racer was duly announced as MP Motorsport's first driver for the 2021 season on 16 December 2020.[1]
